There has just been no slowing with the progress. One crew finishes and the next one begins. Hats off to our builder Brian who keeps things moving right along.
This week has seen the HVAC guys start, the front porch started, the back deck started, the plumbing holes drilled in the walls and floor, and the house get wrapped so it no longer looks like a big ugly wooden box.
Also, the decisions to be made on our part are really rolling now. We just had to pick out every light fixture location, recepticle, and light switch location for the entire house--not an easy thing to do. No matter how much we think about it I'm sure we missed plenty--something surely to drive us crazy once we move in. We also decided this week to upgrade the insulation in the attic with a soy-based foam that goes on the roof rafters instead of the attic floor joists. We decided to finish the attic bonus room since it's already counted as "finished" space for tax purposes. Plus, we took my brother-in-law Chris's suggestion and added a deck to the sleeping porch since there was already a place for it on the roof of the screened porch below.
Electrical and plumbing are next, along with the brick on the basement exterior. I also have to figure out the low voltage plan (phone, cable, internet, alarm, etc). It's a lot of work, but I gotta say, it's fun!

Hi Alyssa (and Dan):
Looks like things are coming along. We particularly like the slate tile and natural wood ceilings of the porches (Will they get painted or do you intend to leave them natural to contrast with the painted siding of the rest of the house?), the wood flooring and the varied color scheme of the interior. When we re-do our San Diego home in a few years, we'll need decorator help. Do you do long distance consulting, Alyssa?
Best, Linda and Dick
